CHOOSING AN AU PAIR
Many families do not know the difference between an Au Pair and a Nanny, the difference being chalk and cheese.
- Au Pair is not an employee or a full-time student, but have features of both.
- Au Pairs do not have any formal childcare training, unlike the Nanny
- The au pair is usually a young person without any previous child care experience, beyond possibly caring for siblings (if any) and baby-sitting.
- It is advisable not to leave very small children (babies) in the care of an au pair.
- The Au Pair is usually between the age of 18 to 30 years.
- They live-in, assist in minding the children, and light household duties.
- Au Pairs should be treated as a member of the family or equal, and not treated as a maid or a domestic.
