Officially au pairs from outside Europe must obtain a work and residence permit (Beschaftigungsbewilligung) to work in Austria. Almost no one succeeds. The majority of non-Europeans leave the country every three months, re-registering on their return.
The au pair can only come for six months twice with 5 years.(Must apply for permission after the first six months).
The Host Family has to inform"Arbeitsamrkservice" 4 weeks before the first six months are over if theau pair wishes to stay up to another 6 Months.
The Host Family has to register the au pair at the "Arbeitsmarkservice" 2 weeks before the au pair is due to arrive and show the signed au pair contract to get a so called "Anzeigenbestaetigung".
